Poros is a green island separated from the Peloponnese by a channel only a few hundred metres wide. Its town climbs a hill crowned by a clock tower, with views over the boats in the channel and the mountains on the mainland opposite. Pine forests, quiet coves and the ruins of the Temple of Poseidon make it a relaxed place for a weekend.
Fast boats leave Piraeus every day and take about 1 h – 1 h 10 m, from €34 (October 2026). With a car, drive to Galatas on the Peloponnese coast, where small car ferries cross to Poros in a few minutes.
Along the waterfront, with tavernas, cafés and the boats to Galatas right in front.
Askeli and Neorio, a short drive or bus ride from the town, have the main beaches.
The fast boats from Piraeus to Poros carry passengers only and continue to Hydra and Spetses. By car, there is no ferry from Piraeus: drive to Galatas (about 2½ hours from Athens) and take the small car ferry across the channel.
