Spetses is the southernmost of the Saronic islands, an elegant place of grand captains’ mansions, pine forests and pebbled coves. The island played a leading role in the Greek War of Independence; its heroine Bouboulina lived here, and her house is a museum. Private cars are restricted in the town, so people get around on foot, by scooter, bicycle or horse carriage.
Fast boats leave Piraeus every day and take 1 h 45 m – 2 h 50 m, from about €50 (October 2026), calling at Poros or Hydra on the way.
Around the Dapia harbour and the old harbour: hotels, cafés and the horse carriages are all here.
Agia Paraskevi, Agioi Anargyroi and Zogeria are pine-fringed coves on the west of the island.
All boats from Piraeus to Spetses are fast passenger boats, calling at Hydra and sometimes Poros on the way. From the mainland, small boats cross from Kosta and Porto Heli in a few minutes; you can leave your car there.
