Ionian Islands by ferry
The Ionian islands lie off the west coast of Greece: green hills, olive groves and some of the most famous beaches in the country. Ferries do not leave from Athens but from ports on the west coast of the mainland: Kyllini for Zakynthos (about 1 h 15 m, from €13.50) and Kefalonia (Poros, about 1 h 30 m, from €14.50), Patras for Kefalonia (Sami) and Ithaca (from €15.40), and Igoumenitsa for Corfu. Kythira is reached from Gythio (2 h 30 m, from €10) or from Piraeus.
