Marble villages · dovecotes · the church of Panagia Evangelistria
Enter your ports, date and passengers to see live sailings and fares.
Tinos is one of the closest Cyclades to Athens and still feels very Greek. The great church of Panagia Evangelistria above the port makes it the country’s best-known place of pilgrimage, and the island is famous for its marble craft: villages such as Pyrgos, Kardiani and Volax, with its giant granite boulders, are full of carved fountains, doorways and bell towers. Across the hills stand hundreds of decorated stone dovecotes, and the island is known for its food: local cheeses, artichokes and cured meats.
The quickest way is from Rafina, about 2 hours by high-speed boat; conventional ferries from Rafina take about 3¾ hours. From Piraeus, Blue Star sails all year in about 5 hours, and Seajets adds a faster boat in summer. Mykonos is only 15–35 minutes away, so many travellers combine the two.
The port town (Chora), with the ferry piers, the church, shops, tavernas and buses, all within walking distance.
Pyrgos, Kardiani or Agios Romanos for quiet stone houses and sea views; you will want a car.
Rafina has the most ferries to Tinos, every day of the year: a fast Seajets boat in about 2 hours and conventional ferries of Golden Star and Fast Ferries that carry cars and campers. From Piraeus, Blue Star sails via Syros, and Seajets adds a high-speed boat in summer (from €77.70, about 2 h 25 m in June 2027). The cheapest fare we found was the afternoon Seajets from Rafina, €24.70.

All ferries arrive in Tinos town, which has two piers a few minutes’ walk apart: the new port and the old port. Your ticket or the company tells you which one your ferry uses, so give yourself a few extra minutes when you leave.
On 15 August and 25 March, the big church festivals, ferries and hotels are very full: book early.

Rafina is the closest port to Athens airport and has the most ferries to Tinos. It is small, so you walk from the bus to the boat in minutes. In Piraeus, Seajets usually leaves from gate E9 or E7 and sends you an SMS with the gate.

Blue Star sails from Piraeus via Syros and carries cars and campers. It shows your gate when you check in (online or at the port). Some sailings use E1 or E2, at the other end of the port, so always check it.

Yes. Both piers are in Tinos town, a few minutes from the shops, hotels and the church of Panagia Evangelistria.
Island buses leave Tinos town for Pyrgos, Kardiani, Volax and the main beaches. Taxis are few, so book ahead for early or late ferries.
Tinos is big and hilly, with more than 40 villages. A car is the best way to see them; rental offices are on the waterfront.
Tinos has no airport. Fly to Athens and take a ferry from Rafina (the closest port to the airport), or fly to Mykonos and cross in 15–35 minutes.
Tinos is one of the windiest islands in the Aegean. In July and August the north wind can delay small high-speed boats; the big ferries are rarely affected.
Taking a camper, motorhome, van or your boat on a trailer to Tinos? Big vehicles need a little more planning on Greek ferries. Here is what to know, for holidays and for business.
Give the exact length and height of your camper, van or car with caravan, including bike racks, roof boxes and tow bars. The ferry fare and deck space depend on them, and a vehicle bigger than booked may be refused or charged extra at the port.
Vehicles running on LPG or other gas, and hybrid or electric vehicles, must be declared when you book. Gas tanks may be filled to no more than 50% and EV batteries charged to no more than 40%. Make sure gas bottles are turned off before boarding.
Be at the port at least 1 hour before departure. Large vehicles are loaded in the order set by the port authority, so arriving early helps. Book well ahead in July and August: garage space for big vehicles runs out first.
Only the driver stays with the vehicle to drive it on and off; everyone else boards on foot. Nobody may stay in the vehicle during the crossing, so take what you need for the trip with you.
Taking your own boat? We also book ferry tickets for a car towing a boat trailer. Give the total length of car, trailer and boat together, and the height of the boat on the trailer, including any mast, frame or outboard engine.
Vans carrying goods, tools or equipment for work may be booked as commercial vehicles, with a different fare and different paperwork from a private car. Tell us what the vehicle carries and its weight.
Several vehicles and drivers on the same sailing, or regular crossings for a project? We book them together so your team travels on the same ship.
Length, height and weight decide the category. Include racks, ladders and trailers, and tell us if anything is loaded on the roof.
Commercial vehicles may need to be at the port earlier than cars. We confirm the exact check-in time and gate for your sailing.
Travelling for work? We issue an invoice in your company’s name. Send us the company name, address and VAT number with your quote request.
Tinos is about villages as much as beaches. When the north wind blows, the south coast near the town is the most sheltered.
The great 19th-century church and the heart of the island, a short walk up from the port.
The marble village, with carvers’ workshops and the Museum of Marble Crafts.
A tiny village among giant round boulders, known for basket weaving.
Two sandy bays, popular with surfers when the wind is up.
Long sandy beaches with shallow water, a few kilometres from the port.
Tinos is relaxed rather than wild. The bars and small music spots are in the lanes behind the Tinos town waterfront, and village squares such as Pyrgos and Kardiani are lovely for a long dinner. For clubs, Mykonos is a short boat ride away.
From Rafina, the Seajets high-speed boat takes about 2 hours and the conventional ferries about 3¾ hours. From Piraeus, Blue Star takes about 5 hours, and the summer Seajets boat about 2 h 25 m.
One way for 1 adult, October 2026 examples: from €24.70 (afternoon Seajets from Rafina), €34.70 on the morning Seajets, €35 on Golden Star and Fast Ferries, and €50 on Blue Star from Piraeus. Summer fares are higher.
Rafina has more and faster ferries to Tinos and is close to Athens airport. Piraeus is easier from central Athens. Flying into Athens? Leave at least 4 hours between your flight’s landing and the ferry’s departure. In Piraeus, Blue Star shows your gate when you check in, and Seajets usually leaves from E9 or E7.
All ferries use Tinos town, which has two piers a few minutes’ walk apart (the new and the old port). Check your ticket for the right one.
Ferries cross many times a day, all year, in 15–35 minutes, from about €10.
No. Most visitors fly to Athens and take a ferry from Rafina, or fly to Mykonos and cross by ferry.
Yes. Golden Star, Fast Ferries and Blue Star carry cars, campers and caravans, and some Seajets boats carry cars. Declare the exact length and height and the fuel type when you book. Village lanes are narrow, so park at the edge of the villages. Wild camping is not allowed in Greece. Get a vehicle quote.
